ICE Get Back in the Win Column with 5-1 Victory over Moose Jaw
February 6, 2020 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Winnipeg Ice News Release
The Winnipeg ICE were back in action at the ICE Cave in Wayne Fleming Arena on Wednesday night against the Moose Jaw Warriors, after a tough road trip in Alberta against Red Deer, Calgary, and Edmonton that saw them lose three straight.
It was a scoreless first period with both teams getting chances on the power play, as the ICE took two penalties to Moose Jaw's one. Liam Hughes and Boston Bilous got the respective starts for the ICE and Warriors, with Bilous being the busier of the two goalies, making 16 saves in the period, while Hughes made eight.
The second period was full of action as the ICE put three goals past Bilous as Isaac Johnson, and Peyton Krebs found the back of the net before Kyle Crosbie put the Warriors on the board after beating Hughes on a breakaway. Jackson Leppard would put the ICE up 3-1 with two minutes left in the frame to take a two goal advantage into the second intermission. Shots were 31-18 in favor of the ICE after two.
The ICE continued to score in the third, with Leppard scoring his second and third of the game, completing his first career WHL hat-trick, along with his 100th career point. The ICE would finish the game 5-1 with Hughes stopping 25 of 26 shots for the win.
The ICE are back in action on Saturday when they face the Medicine Hat Tigers at the Ice Cave.
