
Phoenix Signs Right Wing Sheldon Keefe

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH - The Utah Grizzlies National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate, the Phoenix Coyotes, announced today that they have signed right wing Sheldon Keefe to a one-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett made the announcement.
Keefe, 23, played in 59 games with Hershey last season scoring 32 points (16 goals, 16 assists) with 82 penalty minutes. The Brampton, Ontario native ranked fourth on the Bears in goals and tied for sixth in team scoring.
The 5-11, 184-pound forward was originally a second round selection (47th overall) of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft and has totaled 125 career NHL games, all with Tampa Bay, scoring 12 goals with 12 assists.
During both the 2001-02 season and the 2002-03 season, Keefe split time with Tampa Bay and Springfield of the American Hockey League (AHL). His rookie season (2000-01) was split between Tampa Bay and Detroit of the International Hockey League (IHL).
A star in junior hockey, Keefe was the recipient of the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy, given to the top scorer in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), following the 1999-00 season while a member of the Barrie Colts. During that season, Keefe scored 48 goals and added 73 assists for 121 points. In 25 playoff games, Keefe's 10 goals and 13 assists helped Barrie to the 2000 Memorial Cup finals.
