Moose sign Minard for second go-around

Today, the Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, announced they have signed goaltender Mike Minard to an American Hockey League contract.

Minard, 27, played in eight games last year with the St. John's Maple Leafs, posting one win and one loss to go along with two ties and a 3.94 GAA. In 21 games with the Memphis River Kings of the Central Hockey League (CHL), the Owen Sound, ON native collected eight wins and a goals against average of 2.97.

Minard appeared in one regular season game with Manitoba in 2002-03, but collected two playoff victories in five appearances in the 2003 AHL post-season. He finished with a franchise playoff record 1.91 GAA and a record .930 save percentage.

The eight-year veteran has appeared in one National Hockey League game in his career, beating Hockey Hall of Famer Grant Fuhr in his final pro game with the Calgary Flames, 6-3 back on April 8, 2000 at the Pengrowth Saddledome.

Minard was the fourth choice of the Edmonton Oilers, 83rd overall, in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
