Phoenix Rising and the USL Championship to Become First Professional American Sports League to Return to Play in Its Local Markets

July 2, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Phoenix Rising FC News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Phoenix Rising FC will resume its 2020 USL Championship season presented by Equality Health, in a nationally televised match (ESPN Deportes) against LA Galaxy II, set for Saturday, July 11 (7 p.m.), at Casino Arizona Field, the club announced today. The match will also be broadcast locally on CW61 Arizona.

As a precaution for the health and safety of the community, Rising's home matches in July will be played without fans. Accordingly, the club is inviting the community to a Drive-Through & Drop Off event delivered by Carvana at Casino Arizona Field on Thursday, July 9.

Fans are being asked to show their support for the 2019 Regular Season Title Winners by creating posters and signs and dropping them off at the stadium (751 N McClintock Dr, Scottsdale, AZ 85257) on July 9 between 4 and 7:30 p.m. The fan-created signs will be placed in the stadium during the match as a visual show of support from the community. Carvana will be selecting the most creative signs and awarding fans with a team jersey. Click here for more information on the event.

This announcement positions Phoenix Rising and the USL Championship as the first American sports league to return to play in its local markets following the suspension of play due to COVID-19. The match is one of nine games taking place in the U.S. between July 11-13. Five of those contests will be aired live on ESPN2 or ESPN Deportes. The remaining games will all be available on ESPN+.

A complete schedule for the resumption of the 2020 USL Championship season is expected shortly.
