August 30, 2007 - Heath Phillips picked up his International League leading 13th win, helping the Charlotte Knights knock off the Norfolk Tides 6-3 from Harbor Park Thursday night.
Phillips (13-7) struck out eight while walking one in 6.2 innings as he picked up his fourth straight winning decision. He allowed three runs on eight hits to pick up the win and move into the IL lead, passing a group of five other pitchers who have registered 12 wins on the season.
David Aardsma pitched a perfect ninth for Charlotte to earn his 14th save of the season.
Jim Johnson (6-12) suffered the loss for Norfolk, yielding five runs on 11 hits in six innings of work. Johnson walked one and struck out two.
Charlotte's Jason Bourgeois led the Knights' 12-hit attack with three base hits, while Thomas Collaro finished 2-for-2 with a solo homer and three runs scored.
Mike Cervenak and Cesar Crespo each had two hits and a run driven in for Norfolk, while Adam Stern added two hits and a run scored.
Fernando Cabrera made his Tides debut in relief, allowing one run on one hit while walking a batter in an inning of work.
Norfolk welcomes in the Richmond Braves to town on Friday night for Fan Appreciation Night at Harbor Park. Andy Mitchell (8-7, 4.09) is slated to take the hill for the Tides against Richmond right-hander Jeff Bennett (2-5, 3.53). First pitch is set for 7:15, with a postgame fireworks show scheduled after the game.
