Chester, Pa. (August 17, 2011) - Philadelphia Union and the American Red Cross have once again joined forces to host their second annual blood drive on Saturday, September 24th from 6:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.at the club in PPL Park. Each year, over four million people donate blood through the Red Cross, making it the country's leading provider of lifesaving blood and blood products.

"We are excited to be partnering with the American Red Cross on this very important initiative once again," said Philadelphia Union CEO & Operating Partner Nick Sakiewicz. "Last year's drive was a success, collecting over 380 units of blood, and I'm confident that we'll surpass that number this year."

All presenting blood donors will receive a commemorative 2011 Philadelphia Union Blood Drive scarf, two tickets to a practice session on October 5th and a chance to be entered into a raffle to win two suite ticket vouchers to the Union's final home game against Toronto FC on October 15.

"We thank the Union for helping to save lives in the community, and hope to turn many fans into life-saving blood donors," said Brigid O'Neill LaGier, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Penn-Jersey Blood Services Region. "The upcoming blood drive is vitally important to build a supply of blood that will help safeguard against a possible blood shortage."

Individuals who are 17 years of age or older (16 with parental permission in PA and NJ), meet the height and weight requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on their height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Potential donors are asked to bring their Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID.
