Philadelphia Union Loan Matt Real to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC

CHESTER, Pa. - Philadelphia Union announced today that the club has loaned Homegrown defender Matt Real to USL side, Switchbacks FC, through 2024.

Real signed a contract as a Homegrown with the Union in 2018 after spending time with Bethlehem Steel FC in the USL. Over six seasons Real made 50 appearances, with his debut on March 31 against Colorado. In that time, the former Union Academy player and YSC graduate logged two goals and four assists, with an overall 75.95% pass percentage.

Internationally, Real was selected to the 2018 U.S. Men's Under-20 National Team training camp and was subsequently named to the U.S U-20 roster for the 2018 Concacaf U-20 Championship as the team's captain. He also was named to the U.S roster for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup where he made substitute appearances in two group stage matches. Real made additional appearances for both the U16 and U18 Youth National Teams.
