CF Montréal Women's Program Ambitious Ahead of 2024 Ligue1 Québec Season

April 18, 2024 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Club de Foot Montreal News Release

MONTREAL - The CF Montréal Women's Program, co-founded by BMO, is entering its third season in Ligue1 Québec in 2024 with the ambition of retaining its championship title won last year. The 16-game regular season, with two groups of six teams, will run from April 21st to July 21st.

Home games will be played at the Bois-de-Boulogne sports complex in Laval and at Centre Nutrilait and will be open to the public free of charge. The Women's Program will play its home opener at the Bois-de-Boulogne sports complex on Sunday, April 21st against FC Laval.

Head coach Julie Casselman will rely on a group of experienced players, bolstered by their triumph in Ligue1 Québec and the Coupe du Québec last season. Among them are forward Esther Brossard, the top scorer in Ligue1 Québec in 2023, as well as Canadian U17 internationals Khadijah Cissé, Yasmine Décombe, Inès Nourani, Juliette Perreault, Liana Tarasco, and Marée-Anne Van Doesburg.

"For this first official season under the CF Montréal emblem, we want to represent the Club well in our style of play as well as in the intensity and desire shown in every match," said head coach Julie Casselman. "The goal of the season is to expose our players to the highest level of competition available in the country and thus allow them to continue their development and career. This year, we have a well-organized group collectively ready to face the various challenges that this season will bring us."

"There is a real buzz within the Club at the start of this new season in Ligue1 Québec," added CF Montréal Academy Director Marinos Papageorgopoulos. "Since the creation of the Women's Program, co-founded by BMO, the group has achieved excellent results, even reaching the final of the national championship last summer. Our players have shown remarkable work ethic during the preseason, and there is a certain excitement around the group. The players have the qualities required to repeat their exploits from last season, and we are eager to see their progression throughout the campaign."

Ligue1 Québec is the province's semi-professional championship, the highest level in women's soccer in the country. The CF Montréal Women's Program will aim to lift the trophy for a second consecutive year, after finishing the 2023 season in first place with a record of 8-1-2.
