Pheasants Beat Fargo in Exhibition

SIOUX FALLS -- If Tuesday night's exhibition is telling of what is to come in 2011, the Sioux Falls Pheasants can breathe easy. The Pheasants rode effective pitching and timely hitting for to a 3-1 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
Six different Sioux Falls pitchers combined to hold the RedHawks to one run and no walks. Ben Moore, the American Association's right-handed pitcher of the year last season, threw two scoreless innings in the fifth and sixth for the win. He struck out three.
Fargo-Moorhead took a 1-0 lead on Jason James' single in the fourth inning. But the Pheasants scored twice in the bottom of the sixth on back-to-back hits from veterans Reggie Abercrombie and Brandon Sing. Abercrombie plated Kevin Carby with a single, and Sing followed with a double to score Abercrombie. Sing knocked in Abercrombie again in the eighth inning for the Pheasants' third run. Sing was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Pheasants shortstop Kevin Carby also went 2-for-2 with a run scored.
Fargo lefty Adam Tollefson gave up the go-ahead runs in the sixth for the loss. Jesse Hoorelbeke was 4-for-4 with four singles for Fargo.
The Pheasants will play four straight exhibition games away from Sioux Falls beginning on Friday, May 6, when they take on the Sioux City Explorers in Huron, S.D. The same two squads will meet again on Saturday, May 7 in Yankton, S.D. The Pheasants pay a return visit to Fargo on May 8 and 9 for their final spring tune-ups ahead of the May 12 regular season opener in St. Paul.
