SIOUX FALLS - The Sioux Falls Pheasants announced on Monday the signing of pitcher Matt Litzinger. In a corresponding move, the Pheasants released reliever Sam Walls.

Litzinger, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., is a rookie who appeared as a reliever in eight games in 2010 with the St. George Roadrunners of the independent Golden League. He was 0-1 with a 5.79 ERA with one save.

The right-hander is a converted outfielder and played collegiately at the University of Pittsburgh.

Litzinger is the fourth pitcher to join the Pheasants in-season this year. The Pheasants' roster stands at the league maximum of 22 players.

Walls made 28 relief appearances with the Pheasants, often as a setup man. Walls went 0-2 with a 4.23 ERA. He struck out 25 batters in 27 2/3 innings.

The Sioux Falls Pheasants open three-game series against the division-rival St. Paul Saints at 7:05 p.m. tonight at Sioux Falls Stadium.
