YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown Phantoms and Head Coach Anthony Noreen are proud to announce that forward Soren Jonzzon has committed to play colligate hockey at Quinnipiac University beginning in Fall 2012. Jonzzon, 20, is the 17th current Phantoms player, and sixth this season, to commit to play NCAA Division-I hockey.

"We're really excited for Soren," Noreen said. "At the end of the day, this is what we're in the league for. We're in it to help these guys become better people, better hockey players and move on to the next level. For Soren, his goal from the beginning was to move on to a great hockey school, but also a place he could further his education.

"He knows what he wants to do in the future. He wants to play college hockey, but he also wants to be a doctor, and Quinnipiac is a school that's going to give him the opportunity to do both."

The Phantoms acquired Jonzzon, a third-year USHL player, earlier this season in a trade with the Tri-City Storm. The Mountain View, Calif., native has three goals, 11 assists and 14 points this season and Noreen said he has also been a valuable addition to the Phantoms' locker room.

"It didn't take him very long to fit in with the guys. Everyone on the team likes him and, being a three-year veteran, he's been a really positive influence on all of the younger guys," Noreen said. "He does everything the right way."

Jonzzon said that his current Phantoms teammate Sam Anas, who is another future Quinnipiac Bobcat, helped him make decision.

"I talked to Sam a lot and he had nothing but good things to say about the school," Jonzzon said. "He talked about how the school had a gorgeous campus and how the coaching staff is such a good group of guys. Then I got to visit, meet and talk with staff and Coach [Rand] Pecknold, and I was very impressed.

"They're looking to develop players and take them on to the pro ranks. I'm looking forward to playing under them."

Jonzzon, who has racked up 28 goals, 44 assists and 72 points over 148 games with the Waterloo Black Hawks, Storm and Phantoms, said that although he was happy to secure his college commitment, he still has unfinished business in the USHL.

"I want to contribute to the team every night, help us win games and make a push to the Clark Cup," he said.

Quinnipiac is part of the prestigious Eastern College Athletic Conference, which includes Brown, Cornell, Harvard, Princeton and Yale among other top-tier institutions. The Bobcats are currently in sixth place in the ECAC with a 7-7-4 conference record and a 15-10-5 overall record.

The Phantoms return to action Friday in the Covelli Centre when they take on the Chicago Steel. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m. EST.

The Phantoms are partnering with Radio Disney AM 1260 to provide an exclusive preview of the brand-new upcoming Disney XD series Lab Rats in the Covelli Centre before the Phantoms take on the Steel.

In addition to getting a sneak peek of Lab Rats before the show premieres, the Radio Disney AM 1260 Road Crew will be on hand with interactive entertainment and prizes for fans of all ages. The first 1,000 fans will also receive a free Lab Rats poster, courtesy of Radio Disney AM 1260. The Covelli Centre doors will open early at 5:30 p.m. EST and the exclusive premiere of Lab Rats will air at 6 p.m. on the video boards.
