Phantoms Excited to Host Annual Phan Appreciation Night
April 23, 2021 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Youngstown Phantoms News Release
Youngstown, OH, The Youngstown Phantoms are excited to host our annual Phan Appreciation Night, on April 24th, against Team USA, U-17, puck will drop at 7:05 pm. Join us for a night full of prize giveaways including one lucky fan will go home with a team autographed jersey. After the game the team will auction off their Purple Jerseys.
Team President Andrew Goldman states "It has been a season filled with challenges that all of us faced due to Covid and I am extremely proud of each and every player and staff member for the role they played in allowing us to complete this season under unprecedented challenges. This weekend will be a celebration of all of that hard work, and I look forward to enjoying some exciting hockey against the USNTDP with our fans here in The Mahoning Valley. I also want to express my thanks to Erin Bishop for helping us to play this season in a responsible and safe manner and also want to thank Eric Ryan and JAC Management for their commitment to The Phantoms which allowed us to play at The Covelli Centre where we belong. Finally, I want to thank our fans for supporting us all year and look forward to getting back to a more normal season in October.
The stakes are high as the U17's make their first and only trip to the Covelli Centre this weekend. Team USA sits .1% out of a playoff spot, just behind the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the battle for the fourth and final spot in the Eastern Conference bracket of the Clark Cup Playoffs. Each team has three games remaining on their schedule entering play Thursday night. The Phantoms may not be making the postseason tournament, but they will most definitely have an impact on who makes the final field. Dubuque went 1-4 against Youngstown this year and Team USA is 7-2. Any sort of Youngstown victory this weekend may very well eliminate Team USA from the playoffs, depending on the results of the Dubuque games. The U17's are 3-1 against the Phantoms this year, averaging close to six goals a game in the first four contests. That offense is aided by a 50% power play conversion rate against the Phantoms in those first four games. Isaac Howard paces the U17 offense with 33 points in 28, but Sasha Pastujov has a better points/game average, sporting 26 points in 18 games. Of the three netminders on the U17 roster, only Cameron Korpi has suffered a loss against the Phantoms. Tyler Muszelik and Dylan Silverstein have gone 3-0 against the Phantoms with a combined 3.33 GAA and a .895 S%.
