Youngstown Phantoms News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, OH - The Youngstown Phantoms wrapped up the 2015-16 USHL season in style, downing the Team USA 17s by a final score of 5-4 in overtime. Despite not qualifying for the post-season Youngstown played great hockey down the stretch, winning its final seven games.

The Phantoms picked up right where they left off last night, jumping out to a four goal lead in the first period. Cam Morrison would draw first blood for the Phantoms, blowing a wrist shot past USA netminder Adam Scheel. Morrison would add another minutes later, deflecting a shot from Chase Pearson for his 33rd goal of the season.

Youngstown was just getting warmed up, and would add another pair of goals in less than 90 seconds. Tommy Apap jammed home a rebound for his 5th of the year, followed just 10 seconds later by Kevin Conley, who buried his 10th this season.

USA would get on the board shortly after Conley's goal, when Evan Barratt's wrist shot beat Ryan Bednard up high. Youngstown would take a 4-1 lead into the first intermission.

The second frame would be a different story, however, as USA would cut into the Phantoms advantage behind a pair of goals from Logan Hutsko. Hutsko's 3rd and 4th goals of the USHL season made it a 4-3 contest after forty minutes.

Hutsko would add another just seconds into the final period, tallying a hat trick and tying the game at four. Both teams had quality chances to take the lead, with each goaltender making a few exceptional saves.

The contest would head to overtime and seemed destined for a shootout until Cam Morrison was hooked heading towards the net. Morrison was awarded a penalty shot with just .8 seconds left in overtime. Morrison left no doubt, blowing a wrist shot past the USA netminder to win the game for the Phantoms and earn his first hat trick of the season.

The Phantoms finish the 2015-16 season with a mark of 31-20-9.
