Youngstown Phantoms News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - With the regular season coming to a close and the Eastern Conference playoff race as tight as ever, the Youngstown Phantoms needed wins last weekend, and defenseman Dan Renouf and goaltender Sean Romeo stepped up, helping the Phantoms capture three wins over three days on the road. Monday they were recognized when the United States Hockey League named Renouf it CCM Defensive Player of the Week and Romeo its Reebok Goaltender of the Week.

It is the fourth time this season, and fifth time in his USHL career, that Romeo, 18, has earned the The League's weekly honors, while it is the third time this season that Renouf, 18, has gotten the nod.

"I couldn't be happier for Dan and Sean," head coach Anthony Noreen said. "They both put on impressive individual performances and more importantly, they helped the team pick up six important points."

Renouf racked up two goals, three assists and five points and a plus-5 rating as the Phantoms (36-25-0, 72 points) took three straight games on the road. The Pickering, Ontario, native tallied a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winner and added an assist Saturday as Youngstown scored four unanswered in the third period to down the Chicago Steel 4-1. Then Sunday, Renouf added another pair of assists as the Phantoms defeated the Indiana Ice 5-2 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Renouf, a Maine commit, has recorded 10-17-27 and team-leading plus-24 rating in 54 games this season. The 10 goals scored tie him with Phantoms alumnus Scott Mayfield, for most goals scored in a single season for a Youngstown defenseman.

Romeo won a pair of starts over the week and posted a .955 save percentage and 1.50 goals against average. The Cary, N.C., made 31 saves Friday night as the Phantoms downed the U.S. National Under-17 Team 5-2. The win was Romeo's 29th of the year to surpass former teammate Matthew O'Connor for the most by a Phantoms goaltender in a single season. The following night he turned away 32 shots in the 4-1 win over Chicago.

In 51 games this season, Romeo, a Maine recruit as well, has posted a 30-19-0 record with a .909 save percentage and 2.76 goals against average. He leads the USHL in minutes played (2914 minutes, 46 seconds); ranks second in wins (30) and shutouts (5); and is fourth in saves (1344).

The Phantoms return to action on the road Wednesday when they take on the Steel in Chicago's annual School Day Game. Puck drop is set for 11 a.m. EST at the Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Ill., and the game will be webcast on FASTHockey.com.
