March 1, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren announced today that the Philadelphia Phantoms have acquired center Jared Ross from the AHL's Chicago Wolves. In return, the Flyers have loaned right wing Niko Dimitrakos to the Wolves.
Ross, 24, has recorded seven goals and eight assists for 15 points in 41 games for the Wolves this season. As a rookie with Chicago in 2005-06, he scored 10 goals and added 27 assists for 37 points in 62 contests.
Ross played his collegiate hockey at the University of Alabama at Huntsville, where he ranks as one of the top offensive threats in school history. In 133 career games at UAH, Ross scored 73 goals and added 86 assists for 159 career points. He holds the school records for most career goals and most career points by a center, and ranks second all-time on the school's point-scoring list. In three of his four seasons at the school, he was a teammate of current Phantoms goaltender Scott Munroe.
Ross was born in Huntsville and grew up around the UAH program. His father is UAH head coach Doug Ross, who will retire at the end of this season after 25 years behind the bench.
Dimitrakos departs the Phantoms with 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 points in 45 games with the club this season. He was acquired by the Flyers in a trade-deadline deal on March 9, 2006 from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Dimitrakos was re-assigned to the Phantoms on Oct. 19, 2006 and was sent to the club again on Dec. 19 after a week-long recall to the Flyers.
The Phantoms return to action tomorrow night when they host the Binghamton Senators at 7:05 at the Wachovia Spectrum. It's Seussapalooza Night at the Spectrum, as the Phantoms honor the birthday of Dr. Seuss with Cat In The Hat-style hats for the first 4,000 kids 14 and under courtesy of the NJEA, along with Seuss-themed games on the concourse. The Phantoms are also home on Saturday night against the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:05 in a game that is being televised on Comcast SportsNet. The first 5,000 fans on Saturday receive Puzzle Banks courtesy of Wachovia.
It should also be noted that the Phantoms will play a home game on Tuesday, March 6 against the Senators. The game was originally slated to take place on the following night.
Individual tickets for all Phantoms games, including $8 tickets for children 14 and under anywhere in the building, are on sale now at phantomshockey.com or by calling 800-298-4200.
