Amerks and Sabres to play charity hockey game
March 1, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Alumni from The Rochester Americans and the Buffalo Sabres will compete in the second annual charity game at The Blue Cross Arena on Sunday, March 25th. This blast from the past pits former players against each other on Amerks' Hall of Fame Night to benefit Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong.
Former children's hospital patient Cal Livingston, a Geneseo High School hockey and football player, will drop the puck.
Gates open at 3:30 p.m. The game begins at 4:00 p.m. and will consist of two 20-minute halves, an alumni skills competition at halftime, a silent auction of signed jerseys and player interviews.
Last years game raised more than $2,000 for the hospital and was planned in part by Craig Charron, former Amerk and current coach of a Squirt youth team. Charron says he loves teaching kids who are hungry for knowledge and express a passion for the sport.
"I really enjoy providing a great environment for the young kids to grow and learn. Helping Golisano Children's Hospital is just an extension of that - it gives that same feeling of 'helping' to everyone involved in this game," Charron said.
The Amerks will host a Hall of Fame award ceremony at 6:45 p.m., immediately before the Amerks take on the Syracuse Crunch at 7:05 p.m. The alumni game is free with your Amerks home game admission, and tickets to the doubleheader cost $15 each, $5 of which will be donated to Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong. Orders must be received by Wednesday, March 21st. To purchase, use the form provided at www.gchas.org, or phone (585) 454-5335 ext. 3015 (be sure to mention that you'd like to purchase via the children's hospital charity package).
