YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - After coming up a game short of advancing to the Clark Cup Finals this past season, the Youngstown Phantoms look to take the next step in 2013-14, beginning this week with their 2013 Selection Camp. The five-day camp, which gets underway today and runs through Monday, June 10 at the Ice Zone in Boardman, will be used to evaluate players and determine the 2013-14 Phantoms team for the upcoming USHL season.

"We have put in a lot of work over the offseason preparing for this week and there is no doubt that this is will be the most talented and deep group we have had at camp in this franchise's history," assistant general manager Jason Koehler said. "We are trying building an elite program and a Clark Cup contender, and we are looking for players that fit that mold - highly skilled, highly competitive and great character."

The first two days of the camp will center solely on goaltenders, while the final three days will feature more than 10 intrasquad games. Six teams - made up of Phantoms affiliate players and USHL Draft picks, as well as free agent invites - will compete in three games each over Saturday and Sunday to determine which players advance to the final potion of Selection Camp.

Returning Phantoms veteran players will take part in the final portion camp, which runs Sunday evening through Monday morning. Among the returners expected to be in attendance camp are forwards Kyle Connor, Zach Evancho, Mac MacSorley, Josh Nenadal, JJ Piccinich and Luke Stork; defensemen Kale Bennett, Kyle Mackey and Jimmy Mazza; and goaltender Jake Moore.

After the first round of intrasquad games, the Phantoms staff comprised of head coach Anthony Noreen, assistants Brad Patterson and Rob Rassey, and Koehler, will select two "All-Star" teams made up of the top performers from the first portion on camp and returning USHL veterans. These teams will compete in two games Sunday evening and Monday morning, which the staff will evaluate prior to making its determination for its final roster. Those players will be invited to the Phantoms Training Camp in September.

All games are open to the public, with seating being made available in the bleacher section of the NHL rink at the Ice Zone. Please note that the upper concourse and mezzanine level are reserved for players, staff, scouts and team personnel only.
