Niagara IceDogs News Release

Despite putting 42 shots on net, the Niagara IceDogs fell 3-2 to the Peterborough Petes Wednesday night at the Meridian Centre.

Matt Gillard opened the scoring for the IceDogs with his second goal in as many games, when he beat Petes goaltender Dylan Wells with a wrist shot from the top of the circles. Matt Spencer answered for the Petes just over five minutes later, before Carter Verhaeghe restored the lead at 16:08 of the first period with his team-leading 14th goal of the season. Michael Clarke scored a shorthanded goal to make it 2-2 before the first intermission.

Josh MacDonald scored the only goal in the second period to give the Petes a 3-2 lead.

Despite the IceDogs pouring on the pressure in the third period, they couldn't find the equalizer. Brandon Hope made 19 saves for the IceDogs while Wells made 40 for the Petes.

The IceDogs travel to Kitchener Friday night to face the Rangers for the first time this season.
