Stockton Ports News Release
STOCKTON, Calif- The Stockton Ports discovered what happens when you hold the Visalia Oaks to under ten runs. The Ports had another solid offensive showing on Sunday and scored eight runs on their way to an 8-5 victory.
Starter Trent Peterson (1-4) spun a gem and earned his first win of the season, going six full innings and allowing just a run on three hits while striking out three. Peterson's first win comes at an opportune time for the Ports, ending a three-game losing skid that dated back to their game on Thursday night at Lake Elsinore.
For the second straight game, the Ports were the first to bring runs across as they scored three in the second. Stockton scored two more in the third to make it 5-0. In both innings, the Ports were helped out by defensive miscues from the Oaks. Visalia committed three errors on the day, and the Ports made them pay every time as they scored in each of the three innings in which the errors occurred.
All but one Port in the starting nine reached base in the ballgame. Stockton scored three in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth and two in the seventh. John McCurdy took the lead offensively, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a single, two RBI's and a run scored. Gregorio Petit, Myron Leslie and David Castillo each knocked in a run for the Ports as well.
Oaks starter Jino Gonzalez (1-5) took the loss after going 3.2 innings and allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits.
The Ports will try and even the series with Visalia in the series finale on Monday night at Banner Island Ballpark. Lefty Ryan Ford (3-5, 4.68 ERA) will take the hill for the Ports, opposed by another southpaw, Brandon Mann (3-6, 5.54 ERA), for Visalia. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
