Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(SAN BERNARDINO, CA) - The Inland Empire 66ers had been the league's toughest home team all season, and had proven it against Lancaster the first six times they met. Sunday, however, the JetHawks got early offense and strong pitching, leading the JetHawks to a 5-3 victory to earn their second straight win and earn a series split against the first place 66ers.

Lancaster jumped on the board early, scoring in the first inning on a sacrifice fly. Emilio Bonifacio singled home two runs with the bases loaded in the second inning to make it 3-0. Mark Reynolds and Brandon Burgess, the JetHawks two leading home run hitters, hit back-to-back long balls in the third to put Lancaster up 5-1.

Kellen Raab gave the JetHawks a solid five innings on the mound, allowing just one run. Matt Fowles pitched two scoreless innings and Jared Doyle pitched a scorless eighth to take a 5-1 lead into the ninth.

Inland Empire got to Doyle in the final frame. The JetHawks southpaw walked two batters and hit another, loading the bases. Marshall Hubbard then hit a two-run single, making the score 5-3 and putting the tying run aboard. Dan Pohlman was called out of the bullpen and induced a fly out to the warning track by Mike Wilson to end the game. Pohlman earned his third save, giving Raab his third win.

The road trip continues Tuesday at Modesto. Esmerling Vasquez (1-1) starts for Lancaster. The game is scheduled to start at 7:05, with the radio broadcast kicking off at 6:50 on Magic 1340 and online at www.jethawks.com.

The JetHawks return home Monday, June 19 for a three game homestand which will mark the beginning of the second half of the season. Individual game tickets, season tickets, and mini-plan packages are available at the JetHawks box office, by phone at 661-726-5400, as well as at www.jethawks.com.
