Peterborough Petes News Release

The Peterborough Petes are proud to announce the addition of Joe Cirella to their coaching staff. Cirella will join the team as a defensive consultant similar to goaltending coach Jon Elkin. He will practice with the team at least once a week and appear at at least one game a week and work in an eye-in-the-sky capacity.

Joe has 828 regular season NHL games played with the Colorado Rockies, New Jersey Devils, Quebec Nordiques, New York Rangers, Florida Panthers and Ottawa Senators. He was a teammate of Petes Head Coach Ken McRae with the Nordiques. Cirella also brings a year of NHL coaching experience as an Assistant Coach with the Florida Panthers, and five years of OHL coaching experience as an Assistant Coach with the Oshawa Generals from 1998-2004.

"It's a unique position and any time you can bring in a guy who played 828 games in the National Hockey League as well as having previous coaching experience in the OHL, it's a great addition says Petes General Manager Jeff Twohey. "I think he has so much to offer our young defence it will help, in time, to keep moving them forward," said Twohey.
