FORT MILL, S.C. --The Charlotte Knights defeated the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Red Barons 3-2 Tuesday night at Knights Stadium behind six solid innings from starting pitcher Robert Person (2-3).
Person allowed just two runs on four hits and walked two (one intentionally) while striking out five, but earned a no-decision as Josh Fields relieved him in the sixth with the score tied at two.
Scott Bikowski led the offense for the Knights hitting 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Jeff Bajenaru earned his fifth save of the season, giving up just one hit for no runs in the ninth.
The Knights jumped out to the early lead on Roosevelt Brown's solo home run to right field in the bottom of the first.
A two-run home run from Jim Rushford in the top of the third gave the Red Barons a 3-1 lead, but the Knights added a run in the bottom to close the gap when Raul Casanova (single) scored on a sacrifice fly from Ricky Gutierrez.
The Knights scored the winning in the bottom of the seventh as Jamie Burke reached base on a double up the middle and scored on the following double from Scott Bikowski.
Enterting in relief of Person to begin the seventh, Josh Fields (1-1) earned his first win of the season allowing no hits and no runs in 1 1/3 innings while walking one batter. For the Red Barons, starting pitcher Clay Condrey (3-5) is credited with the loss, allowing six hits (one home run) for three runs while walking two an striking out one.
The Knights-Red Barons series stands tied at one, with game three to play Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. at Knights Stadium. Felix Diaz (2-1) will face Mike Bacsik (2-2) for the Red Barons.
