
Perkins, Doubledays Come Back to Beat Lake Monsters

The Auburn Doubledays, Single-A Short Season affiliate of the Washington Nationals, came from behind to beat the Vermont Lake Monsters, 3-1, on Tuesday night at Falcon Park. Blake Perkins hit a two-run triple in the eighth inning to give the Doubledays their first lead of the game en route to the win.
Vermont (13-12) scored first in the top of the fifth inning off of Auburn left-hander Tyler Watson. Luke Persico led off the inning with a double to left field and advanced to third on the play when Doubledays left fielder Oliver Ortiz overthrew second base. Persico then scored on a Steven Pallares ground out to second base to give the Lake Monsters a 1-0 lead.
Auburn (13-12) came back in the bottom of the eighth inning off Vermont left-hander Ivan Andueza. With two outs, Jake Noll and Paul Panaccione walked to put runners on first and second base. Blake Perkins then hit a two-run triple down the right-field line to score both Noll and Panaccione and give the Doubledays a 2-1 lead. Left-hander Derek Beasley then came in to relieve Andueza. Nick Banks was the first batter Beasley faced, and Banks reached on an infield single that scored Perkins to extend Auburn's lead to two, 3-1.
Doubledays relief pitcher Angher Cespedes pitched the eighth and ninth innings for Auburn. Cespedes allowed just one hit and walked a batter while not allowing a run en route to his first win of the season on the mound.
The Doubledays and the Lake Monsters conclude a three-game series with a Wednesday matinee. Left-hander McKenzie Mills will be on the mound for Auburn against Vermont right-hander Heath Bowers. First pitch is set for 12:05 p.m. at Falcon Park. Hoffman Hot Dogs and 12-ounce fountain drinks are $1 as part of "Weiner Wednesday." You can also bring your camp for a day at the ballpark.
