Saginaw Spirit News Release

Saginaw, MI - Following a 26-day selection camp that was interrupted by a mandatory two-week quarantine, 25 players have been named to Canada's National Junior Team for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, Dec. 25-Jan. 5 in Edmonton, Alta.

Among the 25 players selected are Saginaw Spirit forwards Cole Perfetti and Ryan Suzuki.

Perfetti, 18, is coming off of a milestone season for the Saginaw Spirit. The Whitby, Ontario native set the single-season Spirit record for most points (111) and most assists (74). In October, the Winnipeg Jets selected Perfetti in the first round, 10th overall making him the highest selected player at the NHL Draft in team history.

Suzuki, 19, joined the Saginaw Spirit in January after a deadline deal with the Barrie Colts. The 2019 Carolina Hurricanes first round pick complied 35 points in 23 games for the Spirit before the COVID-19 pause.

Both Perfetti and Suzuki have competed for Team Canada at the Under-17, Under-18, and now the Under-20 age group.
