Pensacola Shuts out M-Braves Again on Thursday

PEARL, MS - The league-leading Pensacola Blue Wahoos (23-11) clinched their seventh-straight series victory to begin 2019 on Thursday night with a 4-0 win over the Mississippi Braves (16-16) at Trustmark Park. The Blue Wahoos held the Braves to just three hits in their second-straight shutout of Mississippi.

Ian Anderson (L, 2-2) made his team-leading seventh start on Thursday, coming off back-to-back wins and scoreless performances. Anderson gave up a leadoff single to Luis Arraez but recovered with back-to-back strikeouts of Alex Kirillof and Miguel Sano. Travis Blankenhorn put the Wahoos up 2-0 by sending a two-run home run 414 feet down the right-field line.

Anderson had a 1-2-3 inning in the second but let the first three Pensacola batters reach in the top of the third inning. Sano bounced into a double play letting Jordan Gore score and increase the lead to 3-0. With one out and the bases loaded, Gore hit a sharp comebacker to that deflected off Anderson's glove, striking him in the neck. The No. 3 prospect for the Braves left with a contusion and for precautionary reasons. Justin Kelly took over and walked Arraez with the bases loaded, increasing the Wahoos advantage to 4-0. Kelly added 3.1 innings of scoreless relief on just two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Pensacola starter Randy Dobnak (W, 1-0) held the M-Braves to just two hits through 6.0 innings. Tyler Jay and Alex Phillips (S, 1) pitched the final three innings to finish the three-hit shutout.

Cristian Pache had his 11-game on-base streak come to an end after an 0-for-4 night. Josh Graham worked a scoreless ninth inning for the M-Braves in his team-leading 12th appearance.

The M-Braves will conclude their 10-game homestand and five-game series with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Friday night. LHP Kyle Muller (0-1, 2.77) takes the mound for Mississippi against Southern League ERA-leader RHP Griffin Jax (2-0, 0.53) for Jackson. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm with coverage beginning at 6:20 pm on 103.9 WYAB, TuneIn Radio, MiLB First Pitch app. and MiLB.TV (subscription required).
