Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
BILOXI, MS - A brief offensive flurry in the second period that saw the Pensacola Ice Pilots score two power-play goals 33 seconds apart was enough to propel Pensacola to a 2-1 victory over the Mississippi Sea Wolves at the Pensacola Civic Center on Sunday evening.
After both teams played a tentative, punch-and-counterpunch first period that saw few shots and fewer offensive chances for each side, Pensacola got their offense going midway through the second period when Gio Flamminio took a hooking minor at 9:07 and Matt Deschamps took a slashing minor at 9:53, giving the Ice Pilots a five-on-three power play. Thirty seconds into the two-man advantage, Adam Hobson poked a rebound past Sea Wolves goaltender Ryan Munce in a goalmouth frenzy to give Pensacola a 1-0 lead at 10:27 of the second period. The Ice Pilots remained on the power play, with Bryan Pouliot staking Pensacola to a 2-0 lead with a shot from the right circle that beat Munce on the stick side at the 11-minute mark.
Mississippi's lone goal came at the 10:57 mark of the third period when Torry Gajda broke down the ice two-on-one with Mark Hurtubise. Gajda dished the puck cross-ice to Hurtubise, who ripped a shot past Brodeur on the stick side for his 13th goal of the season.
Ryan Munce, who was reassigned from the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League earlier in the day, made 22 saves on 24 shots, earning the loss, and the Sea Wolves power play was 0-for-4.
The Sea Wolves return home on Friday for the final home game of the season against the Pensacola Ice Pilots at 7:05 p.m. Friday is also Fan Appreciation Night! Get your tickets today by calling 228.275.WOLF!
