Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PENSACOLA, FL- The Pensacola Ice Flyers are starting the month off right going 2-0 in December and riding a streak that includes wins in 7 of their last 8 games going all the way back to the beginning of November.
Pensacola and Columbus would trade goals all night with Chris Wilson sneaking the first passed Loewen with help from Dorowicz and Short in the tenth minute of the first period. Columbus would follow short almost two minutes later when Hammond put a marker in the net. Pensacola, however, would not head into the first intermission behind when Matt Whitehead and Brett Liscomb connected with Tyler Lyon to make it 2-1 heading into the locker room.
Action continued in the second but staunch defenses on both sides limited action with no goals being scored. Action would again heat up in the third period when Columbus' Hammond and Barlow connected to even up the score at 2 a side. Less than a minute later, Tyler Soehner and Brett Liscomb would combine to put the Ice Flyers up once again with just 3:55 remaining. Not to be outdone, Columbus would fight back and tie up the game with a late goal in the eighteenth minute.
Going in to Sudden Death, the Cottonmouths were skating a man down early when Hergoot got called for tripping just 23 seconds into the OT. The Ice Flyers' capitalized on the man advantage and, fittingly given his recent performance; Matt Whitehead continues his exceptional play on the ice when he scored the game winner just over one minute in to OT.
The Ice Flyers performed well on Power Plays knocking in 30% of their chances going 2-6 on the night while Columbus scored on a quarter of theirs. In addition, the Ice Flyers outshot the Cottonmouths 43-30. All three stars went to the Ice Flyers in 3-2-1 order, Tyler Lyon, Brett Liscomb, and Matt Whitehead.
The Ice Flyers will be back in action at The Hangar tomorrow for their second annual Guns N' Hoses Night. 1st Responder will be eligible for $8 tickets and Buffalo Wild Wings will be joining us and hosting their Charity Wing Eating Competition. Great seats are still available. For more information about the Pensacola Ice Flyers, upcoming events, or group information, visit www.pensacolaiceflyers.com.
