Penguins, Wild to face off in Wheeling

Wheeling W.V. – The Wheeling Nailers announce today in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Penguins that the Nailers NHL affiliate will play a preseason game in Wheeling on Sunday, September 26th at 5:05 versus the Minnesota Wild.

The second ever NHL game in West Virginia will be played in Wheeling's WesBanco Arena, and will bring national attention to the Ohio Valley. The Penguins and New York Islanders played in the first ever NHL game in West Virginia on September 19, 2003. The Islanders won the game 4-1.

"We are excited that our great fans will be treated to NHL hockey for a second straight year," said Nailers President Rob Brooks. "It's another great opportunity to show people what a tremendous hockey market Wheeling and the Ohio Valley has become."

Both the Penguins and the Wild will have a new look next season with off-season signings of all-star players. The Penguins signed the Flyers leading scorer of the 03-04 season Mark Recchi, while the Wild signed two-time Olympian Brian Rolston who will represent the U.S. at the upcoming World Cup this summer. Wheeling fans may also have the chance to see perennial all-star Marion Gaborik, and former penguins Alexandre Daigle and Richard Park. For the Penguins, fans may get to see new stars such as Ryan Malone and Marc-Andre Fleury.

WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers will enter their 13th season in the ECHL this fall, and will take to the ice with a brand new look. The Nailers will unveil their first completely new look since the franchise switched from the Thunderbirds to the Nailers for the 1996-97 season.

The Nailers have had several variations on their jerseys since the 1996-97 season, but none as dramatic as this season. There will be a new home and road jersey, both featuring an oversized Mask and Nails logo. The new alternate third jersey will be a brand new look for the team.

The home and road jersey will be a spin-off of the red alternate jersey the team has featured for the past two seasons. The home jersey will have a white body with red on the shoulders and sides. The road jersey will have a black body with red on the shoulders and sides.

The biggest and most dramatic new look will be with the alternate third jersey. The jersey will be in the Nailers "Vegas Gold" color with black, red and white stripping. The front of the jersey will have the word NAILERS in block lettering from the right shoulder to the left hip. The jersey will be worn predominately for Sunday home games.

Fans will have an opportunity to pre-order replica Nailers jerseys with the new look on the Nailers website, or they can call the Nailers office to place an order.

NAILERS, CHIEFS TO PLAY EXHIBITION GAME AT WESBANCO ARENA

Wheeling W.V. – The Wheeling Nailers are excited to announce that the first time in five years they will be holding a Nailers preseason game in Wheeling.

The game will be on October 16th against the Johnstown Chiefs, it will be their second preseason game of the season having played the Chiefs the night before in Johnstown.

Before the game the Nailers will be hosting the 2004-05 Fan Fest outside the arena. This will give fans of all ages a chance to try their hand at many fun and interactive games. More information will be available as we get closer to the season.

"We're excited to bring the preseason back to Wheeling, we feel that there is an increased interest in hockey in the Ohio Valley and we wanted to give the fans something to be excited about in the beginning of the season," said Nailers President Rob Brooks.

NAILERS HEAD COACH TO APPEAR AT STRATFORD SPRINGS

Wheeling, WV - The Wheeling Nailers announce today that Head Coach Pat Bingham will be at Stratford Springs on August 7th from 6:30 pm until 7:30 pm for their monthly pool party to sign autographs and meet with fans.

Stratford Springs will also be giving away Nailers merchandise and tickets as prizes during the night. The party starts at 6:30 pm and runs until midnight. For more information call Stratford Springs at 304.233.5100
