Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA- The Johnstown Chiefs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Toby O'Brien announced today that they have signed left wing Jean Desrochers (Da-row-cher).

Desrochers, 24, spent the last four seasons with the Clarkson University Golden Knights. In 38 games last season, the 6'2, 220 LBS native of Dalhousie, Quebec scored 6 goals and 13 points. In 111 career games with Clarkson, Desrochers had 16 goals and 44 points. Chiefs defenseman Ian Manzano was a team mate with Desrochers for two seasons at Clarkson.

"Jean comes to Johnstown highly recommended by our scouts and by college coaches I have talked to. He brings NHL size to the left side for us and still has a great upside. At Clarkson he was more than a good hockey player, he was a great citizen and student. Jean was active in several charitable causes and a good student, majoring in business," said O'Brien.

At the end of the 2003-04 season, Desrochers received the Fred Neragin Award which is presented to the Clarkson player who excels in sportsmanship, academics, and who has contributed significantly to the Clarkson hockey program. Desrochers was also very active in the community as he helped organized, along with classmate Trevor Edwards, Power Play Goals for Kids, fundraising for Camp Ta Kum Ta, a camp for children battling the effects of cancer.

Season ticket packages and flex plans are now available by calling the Chiefs office at (814) 539-1799 or 1-800-SLAPSHOT. Opening night is scheduled for Saturday, October 23rd when the Chiefs host the Wheeling Nailers at 7:00 p.m.
