Penguins recall T.J. Reynolds and JC Ruid from Wheeling

WILKES-BARRE, PA. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have recalled forward JC Ruid and defenseman T.J. Reynolds from their ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers. The announcement was made today by Penguins' team president Jeff Barrett.

Ruid, 29, was recalled by the Penguins earlier in the season and recorded two penalty minutes in four games. He was recalled by the Penguins on November 13 and reassigned to Wheeling on Nov. 24.

The 6'4", 215-pound native of South Burlington, Vermont has recorded 50 points (18+32) and 48 penalty minutes in 41 games this season with the Nailers. He is ranked among the team leaders in game-winning goals (first with six), assists (third), points (third), goals (tied for third) and shots (seventh with 111).

Ruid appeared in 71 games last season with the Adirondack IceHawks (UHL), recording 96 points (40+56) and 68 penalty minutes. He finished second on the team in scoring for coach Pat Bingham's squad. Bingham, who is now the head coach of the Penguins' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers, coached Ruid in Ashville (2000-01 season) and with the Nailers (2001-02 season) as John Brophy's assistant coach.

During the 2002-03 season, he also played in six games with the Albany River Rats (AHL) and one game with the Binghamton Senators (AHL).

Ruid was signed by the Penguins to a one-year AHL contract on September 10, 2003.

Reynolds, 22, has recorded 17 points (3+14) and 199 penalty minutes in 48 games this season with the Nailers. He leads the team in penalty minutes and is tied for second in plus/minus rating (+24).

The 6'2", 212-pound native of Kitchener, Ontario recorded 10 points (2+8) and a team-high 371 penalty minutes in 71 games last season with the Nailers. In 119 career games with the Nailers, he has recorded 27 points (5+22) and 570 penalty minutes.

Reynolds was signed by the Penguins to a one-year AHL contract on September 23, 2003.

Both players are expected to be in the lineup tomorrow night when the Penguins (20-20-5-4, 49 pts; Sixth -place, East Division) host the Portland Pirates (19-17-8-6; 52 pts; Fifth-place, Atlantic Division) at 7:05 p.m. at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.

INJURY UPDATE: Center Kris Beech suffered a right clavicle fracture in the first period last night versus Toronto and right wing Steve Webb was also injured and is out indefinitely with fractured ribs. Beech is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.
