March 25, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Pittsburgh Penguins today reassigned defenseman Darcy Robinson from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL) to Wheeling (ECHL), according to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Head Coach Glenn Patrick.
Robinson, 20, has five assists and 35 penalty minutes in 38 games this season with the Penguins. He has four points (1+3) and 34 penalty minutes in seven games this season with the Nailers.
This is the fourth time this season that Robinson has been reassigned to Wheeling from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The 6'5", 222-pound native of Kamloops, British Columbia split last season between Saskatoon (WHL) and Red Deer (WHL). He recorded eight points (2+6) and 80 penalty minutes in 41 games with the Blades and recorded six points (1+5) and 70 penalty minutes in 30 games with the Memorial Cup winning Rebels. Robinson collected two points (1+1) and 20 penalty minutes in 20 playoff games.
He was selected by Pittsburgh in the eighth round (233rd overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
With today's roster move, the Penguins have 23 players on their roster - 13 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.
NOTES: Rookie defenseman Rob Scuderi will not accompany the team to Norfolk tomorrow. Scuderi is out indefinitely with bruised ribs suffered late in the game on Saturday at Grand Rapids. Forward Alexandre Mathieu is still recovering from successful surgery on Feb. 14 to repair a non-union scaphoid fracture of the left wrist and is out indefinitely.
Forward Darcy Verot will be eligible to return to the lineup on Wednesday after missing the last two games because of a league suspension. Forwards Jason MacDonald has four games left to serve on his suspension and Steve Parsons will miss the Penguins' final six games of the 2001-2002 season. All three players were suspended for their actions in AHL Game #942 on March 17 vs. Syracuse at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.
The Penguins will practice tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at the Ice Box Skating Complex in Jenkins Township. The team will leave immediately after practice for their two-game road trip in Virginia against the first-place Norfolk Admirals.
The Penguins (20-39-12-3, 55 points; Fourth-place, South Division) will play the Admirals (34-24-12-4, 84 points; First-place, South Division) on Wednesday (7:15 p.m. start) and Friday (7:30 p.m. start) at the Scope in Norfolk, Virginia. The Penguins will return home after the game and will play host to the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday (Fan Appreciation Night) at 7:05 p.m. at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.
