
Quebec Center Eric Landry Named Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that Quebec Citadelles center Eric Landry has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 24, 2002. In three games last week, Landry recorded eight goals and one assist, along with a plus-6 rating, as the Citadelles maintained their lead in the AHL's Canadian Division.
Landry, who had never recorded a hat trick in his professional career prior to this week, netted three goals in Tuesday's 5-2 victory over Portland, and added a goal and an assist in Friday's 3-3 tie against St. John's. The former Saint John Flame then returned to Harbour Station on Saturday and scored four times, including the game-winning tally, in the Citadelles' 5-3 win over Saint John. In recognition of his achievement, Landry will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Gatineau Minor Hockey Association of Gatineau, Que., in Landry's name.
For the season, Landry leads the Citadelles with 31 goals and 70 points in 60 games, including 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points in his last 19 contests. He was also named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for February 4-10, 2002. In his seventh pro season, Landry has recorded 150 goals and 181 assists for 331 points in 431 career AHL contests, and he reached the Calder Cup Finals with Hamilton in 1997 and with Saint John in 1998. Landry has skated in 66 career NHL contests with Calgary and Montreal.
Other players nominated for Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week include Bridgeport right wing Juraj Kolnik, Chicago center Andreas Karlsson, Cincinnati right wing Steve Brule, Cleveland center Jim Brown, Grand Rapids forward Tim Skarperud, Hamilton right wing Kevin Brown, Hartford center Rico Fata, Houston center Cory Larose, Lowell center Ian MacNeil, Manitoba goaltender Alfie Michaud, Milwaukee center Mark Mowers, Norfolk goaltender Michael Leighton, Rochester right wing Norm Milley, Springfield goaltender Patrick DesRochers, St. John's center Donald MacLean, Syracuse defenseman Derrick Walser, Utah right wing Cameron Mann and Worcester center Justin Papineau.
As Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week, Landry is scheduled to participate in an on-line chat at the AHL's official web site, theahl.com, on Thurs., Mar. 28, at 7:00 p.m. ET.
