Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 3-2 on Saturday night. The loss ended the Bulldogs four-game winning streak as former Bulldog Jean-Philippe Cote scored the game-winning goal.
The Penguins opened the scoring at 4:41 of the first frame. Connor James skated behind the net before centering the puck to Luca Caputi, who was in front of the net. Caputi one-timed the puck past Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.
Chad Anderson tied the game 1-1 at 11:59 of the first stanza. Steve Gainey sent the puck to Anderson, who ripped a shot that sailed over the glove of Wilkes-Barre starting goaltender John Curry. Tyler Shelast gave the Bulldogs the lead at 14:34 while on the power play. While just outside the goal crease, Shelast collected the puck before filing rifling a shot underneath the crossbar. The goal was Shelast's first as a Bulldog.
Mark Letestu was rewarded a penalty shot in the middle frame after being hauled down by Yannick Weber but was stopped by Desjardins.
The Pens tied the game 2-2 at 5:49 of the third frame. Adam Henrich fed a pass to Tim Wallace, who fired a shot that rang off the post and into the back of the net. At 12:59, Cote gave Wilkes-Barre a 3-2 lead. Cote received the puck from Jeff Taffe before wristing a shot over the right shoulder of Desjardins.
The Bulldogs continue their five-game road trip on Monday, February 16th when they travel to Philadelphia to battle the Phantoms for a 5:05 p.m. game.
