Penguins Assign Three To Nailers

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the 'AA' affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced three additions to their roster from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL). Wingers Bryan Ewing and Tommy Goebel along with defenseman Elgin Reid have joined the Nailers training camp at WesBanco Arena.

Ewing, 23, comes to Wheeling after a successful collegiate career at Boston University where he posted 108 points (48g, 60a) in 143 career games. He finished his senior season as the top playmaker for the Terriers, notching 26 assists to go along with his 17 goals. His 43 points were just two points behind Peter MacArthur for the team lead.

The five-foot-10-inch, 165 pound rookie lived in Wheeling as a child before relocating to Plymouth, MA before high school.

Goebel, 23, most recently played as a member of the Rochester Americans (AHL) after completing his season with Ohio State University. The rookie played in just five games with the Americans but registered an impressive five points (2g, 3a). He played four years of college hockey split evenly between Michigan State and Ohio State. He accounted for 123 points (54g, 69a) in 147 combined games at both schools.

Reid, 21, joins the Nailers after competing against them at the tail-end of the 2007-08 season as a member of the Elmira Jackals. He notched five points (3g, 2a) in five games with the Jackals. Reid spent five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Ottawa, Owen Sound and Windsor. The Milton, ON native racked up 110 points in 265 games during his junior career.
