RoadRunners Ink Cleaver To Try-Out Agreement

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, announced today that rookie forward Rick Cleaver has signed a try-out agreement.

Cleaver, 25, was a two-time ECAC East Player of the Year award winner at Norwich University and captured the honor last season after recording 31 goals and 50 points in 28 games. The Parksville, British Columbia native led the Cadets to a 23-7-0 mark, their most wins since the 2004-05 season, and a spot in the NCAA Division III Frozen Four. Cleaver was also named a Division III First Team All-American and selected to the 2008 New England Hockey Writers ECAC East/NESCAC All-Star Team.

Cleaver participated at the 2008 San Jose Sharks Prospect Tournament at Las Vegas and also attended training camp with the Worcester Sharks. He totaled 92 goals, 66 assists, and 158 points in 102 games over a four-year career at Norwich University.

In preparation for the 2008-09 season and the season opener on Friday, Oct. 17 at home against the Victoria Salmon Kings, the RoadRunners will host a portion of their training camp in Southwest Florida and will face-off against the Florida Everblades in a two-game pre-season series at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 10 and 11 at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla.

The RoadRunners would like to extend an invitation to all members of the media to join Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Church, Assistant Coach Brian O'Leary, and members of the 2008-09 team from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at US Airways Center for Media Day. Media Day will take place at the Phoenix Suns Practice Court, which is located on the event level of US Airways Center across from the RoadRunners locker room.

With the addition of Cleaver, the RoadRunners currently have 26 players in training camp. Players under contract include forwards Josh Bonar, Mitch Carefoot, Wes Clark, Kimbi Daniels, Dan DaSilva, Andrew Desjardins, Bryan Esner, Gino Guyer, James McEwan, Stephen Peat, Daniel Sisca, Peder Skinner, Chris Stevens, and Geoff Walker; defenseman Andrew Andricopoulos, Matt Burke, T.J. Campbell, Rob Dmytruk, Bryan Nathe, Tom Sawatske, and Brett Thurston; and goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo.

Cleaver and forward Colin Sinclair, and goalies Ryan Daniels and Reto Schurch are in training camp on try-out agreements.

The RoadRunners open their fourth ECHL season Oct. 17 when they welcome the Victoria Salmon Kings to US Airways Center for a three-game Opening Weekend series.
