Penalties Slow Down Sioux City

Sioux City Musketeers News Release
FARGO, ND-The Musketeers finished up their two-game set against the Force on Friday night, but they couldn't extend their win streak to four games, losing by a final score of 6-4.
In what has been a very positive trend for the Musketeers this season they once again struck early in this one thanks to the hard work of Matt Miller. Brock Baker made an excellent play to fight off a Fargo defender and get to the net where his backhand attempt was stopped by Matthew Sankner, but he couldn't cover the puck. Matt Miller forced his way to the front of the net and was able to jam home a shot for his fourth goal of the season to put the Musketeers up 1-0. Baker and Brady Smith had the assists on the play.
Just a minute later Marcus Kallionkieli came down the left side on a 2 on 1 and decided to shoot instead of pass. It turned out to be the right decision as he fired an absolute laser high past Sanker to give Sioux City a 2-0 lead. The Musketeers would even get a 5 on 3 opportunity at the end of the period, but they could not convert, taking a 2-0 lead into the locker room.
Sioux City looked good heading into the 2nd period, but penalties would prove to be their downfall the rest of the game. Ryan O'Reilly got Fargo back within one on the powerplay just 4:58 into the 2nd period. Marcus Kallionkieli would stay hot scoring his seventh goal of the season at the 10:18 mark to give Sioux City some breathing room but it would not be enough.
Nicolas Appendino scored for Fargo two minutes later to bring Fargo back within in one, and just over two minutes later Jake Harrison would score to tie the game at three goals apiece.
Sioux City struggled to get any momentum in the period, most likely due to the five penalties charged to the Musketeers in the frame.
Fargo opened the 3rd period with a powerplay goal just 42 seconds in and they never looked back. Michael Mancinelli and Ross Mitton added two insurance goals for Fargo over the next four minutes to make it 6-3. Luke Johnson's first goal of the season would be the lone bright spot for the Musketeers in the period. Bobby Brink and Parker Ford had the assists on the goal.
In all the Musketeers eight penalties in the game and the Force made them pay. Sioux City will now finally head home to face the Waterloo Black Hawks in the 2018 Home Opener.
