Worcester Tornadoes News Release
WORCESTER, MA--- With the score tied at three in the bottom of the fifth Alex Pena stepped to the plate with the bases loaded against Eric Gagne. One a converted starting pitcher turned DH in only his third game in the batting order, the other a former Cy Young Award winning closer. The result; a go ahead and eventual winning three run double and a 6-3 Tornadoes win.
Zack Zuercher (6-4) did not have his best stuff early on, but fought through a five inning outing for his sixth win of the season, and fifth victory in a row. His counterpart Eric Gagne picked up his first loss since the fifth of July to drop to 5-3.
Quebec drew first blood in the top of the first, but Vinny Pennell was able to answer with a solo homer, his second, in the bottom half against Gagne. Worcester plated two more on a Jeff LaHair two out RBI double in the second.
Jose Aquino threw his first professional inning tonight for Quebec in the bottom of the eighth, not allowing Worcester any insurance for their closer. Anthony Sullivan would need none, however, getting the side in order for his ninth save.
Tomorrow night it's Hanover Night: Part One at the HIP, first pitch is at 7:05. Jusef Frias (3-2) will tangle with Michel Simard (6-6). A Tornado win would put them in a tie with the Caps for first place in the second half.
