Pensacola Pelicans News Release

This three-game series between the Pensacola Pelicans and the Sioux Falls Canaries will be the only meeting between these two teams and the last against a Northern Division opponent for the Pelicans in the regular season. With the start of the second half, every team that fell short in the first half has another chance to atone for their miscues. Sioux Falls finished the first half with a 16-32 record, 15 games out of first, while the Pelicans finished with a 24-24 record, only two games out of first.

Pensacola looks to turn their success against the Northern Division teams around as they have managed to win only one of the ten games played this season. The Canaries are 3-0 against Southern Division teams, having swept the El Paso Diablos in a three game series.

Trino Aguilar, Ed Montague and Carlos Mendoza continue to hit the ball extremely well as all three are ranked in the top 10 in American Association hitting, and have been for most of the season. The Pelicans lead the league in batting and, despite their recent slide, are hitting .294 over their last ten games with 99 hits and 11 homeruns.

The Canaries are a patient team at the plate and are second in the league drawing 183 walks at the halfway point of the season. They won twice as may games in June as they did in the first month of the season and are looking to improve on that in July.

WHO TO WATCH:

Pensacola: Larry Bethea - DH - Has been one of the hottest Pelican hitters, batting .462 in his last nine games with five RBI and three runs scored. This season he has a 0.96 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 18.1 innings pitched.

Sioux Falls: Dustin Dellucci - OF - Is hitting .368 in his last three games and has driven in five runs over that time. Tony Cogan - SP - Has picked up the win in his last two outings, giving up 13 hits and five runs in 15.1 innings of work.
