Pensacola Pelicans News Release
Before Pensacola takes the field to play the Sioux Falls Canaries on Tuesday, July 4, there will be another game at Pelican Park. Ed's Aluminum, a National Championship Softball Team, has challenged members of the Pensacola media to a slow-pitch softball game prior to the Pelicans first pitch. The game will take place at Pelican Park at 5 p.m. and will be followed by the Pensacola Pelicans taking on Sioux Falls at 6:35 p.m.
Ed's Aluminum is a 65+ softball team that features three members of the Softball Players Association National Hall of Fame, including former Detroit Tiger Jake Wood and pitcher/manager Mike DeSorbo. The team is comprised of mostly local men who started out in a 50+ age division and have moved up to the next age division together every five years. They have won five National Championships over the years.
They will face a team consisting of the Pensacola media, including representatives from the Pensacola News Journal, WEAR TV 3, AM 1620, Gulf Breeze News, Cumulus Broadcasting, and the Santa Rosa Press Gazette along with Pelicans staff members and a few Pelican players. The contest promises to be entertaining if nothing else and is open to anyone who purchases a ticket to the Pelicans game. General admission prices for the softball and Pelicans game are only $7.
At 6:35 p.m., the first game of the second half gets underway as the Pelicans and the Canaries face off for the first of a three-game series. Immediately following the game, fans will be able to sit back and watch as fireworks fill the Fourth of July sky with plenty of sound and color presented by Pen-Air Federal Credit Union, Q100 and WXBM.
Fans can purchase tickets to the game by calling 850-934-8444 or on the Pelicans website at www.pensacolapelicans.com.
