Pels fans enjoy high scoring showcase

If a person likes offensive and runs scored, then this was the game to watch. The Pensacola Pelicans and Shreveport Sports combined to score 24 runs on 31 hits in an almost four hour long game. The Sports came out on top of this slug-fest 18-6 in front of 1,414 fans at Pelican Park.

Shreveport's Neb Brown scored the games first run in the first inning. The Sports added four more in the 2nd inning. Melvin Falu, Coby Smith and Al Corbeil all had hits in the inning making the score five to nothing.

Pensacola got their bats going and took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd as they scored six runs on five hits. Jose Yepez had an RBI double to score George Branch who began the inning with a walk. Andrew Salvo then singled in Ed Montague and Yepez. Rolo Avila then scored Jon Pasieka for the fourth run of the inning. Tim Dorn gave the Pelicans the lead with a two RBI single.

The Pels lead didn't last long as the Sports first nine batters in the 3rd inning all scored before Pensacola could record an out. In total, Shreveport brought 14 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs on seven hits including a three-run homerun from Justin Humphries.

In the 5th inning, Pensacola cut the lead to six. Juan Rocha, Tim Dorn and George Branch had back-to-back-to-back hits. Branch's double brought Rocha and Dorn making the score 14-8.

A highlight for the Pelicans was Pelicans utility player Bo Brown who made his second pitching appearance of the season. He threw 4.2 innings, gave up one run on four hits and struck-out five to keep the Sports lead within reaching distance.

The Sports added one more run in each the 7th and 8th innings making the final score 16-8.
