
St. Joe battles but falls short to Fort Worth

ST. JOSEPH, MO- St. Joe (22-24, 48-46) fell, 9-7, to Fort Worth (32-14, 56-38) in an ugly, slow-paced game at Phil Welch Stadium. The teams combined for 25 hits as nine different pitchers were used in the 3 hour, 19 minute contest.
St. Joe led early 2-0 and retook the lead at 4-2 when Cory Harris doubled in a pair. But Fort Worth used a five-run fifth inning to take the lead, 7-4, when the first seven batters reached in the inning knocking Jesen Merle from the game.
Fort Worth added a pair to the lead in the seventh before St. Joe scored three to get within striking distance on a Jimmy Mojica run-scoring single and two-run hit by Ben Thomas but Fort Worth held on.
Misha Dworken had three hits to lead five players with multi-hit games in the 13-hit Blacksnake attack.
Game three of the series is tomorrow night at 7:05pm. J.C. Huguet (7-3) will make the start for St. Joe while Fort Worth counters with left-hander Ryan Weems (3-8). Phil Welch Stadium will be lit with fireworks following the game for the final "Fireworks Friday" of 2006.
