Pensacola Pelicans News Release
Pensacola Pelicans vs. Shreveport-Bossier Captains
SITE: Fair Grounds Field in Shreveport, LA (July 14-16, 2009)
TIME: 7:05 p.m. Central Time on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
ABOUT THE SERIES:
This series features the top South Division teams of the second half, as the first place Captains host the Pelicans, a game back in second place. The Pelicans and Captains play each other 24 times, the most of any opponent. This series marks the fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth games between the two teams this season. The series-to-date is currently tied, and of the 14 contests the teams have played, three games went into extra innings. Pensacola won the most recent series June 26-28, taking the first game 6-0, losing the middle-match 5-2, and claiming getaway day 7-4.
Pensacola is coming off a six-game home stand, all against El Paso. The Pelicans took four of the six, including the last two on the weekend. Saturday saw Randy Beam pitch the Pelicans' first one-hitter in history, as the lefty carried a no-no two outs into the eighth inning. The Pelicans went on to blank the Diablos 5-0, and carried the momentum into Sunday, winning 5-4.
Shreveport-Bossier is coming off a three-game sweep of the Wichita Wingnuts, notable because the Wingnuts took the first-half crown in the North Division. The Captains have won nine of their last 11, and are on a five-game winning streak. Shreveport-Bossier took Friday's game 5-4, Saturday's 4-0, and Sunday's 3-2.
