Cats nip Airhogs 6-5 with late homer

Grand Prairie, TX. Grand Prairie gave up three homeruns including a solo shot to Michael Bell in the ninth that gave Fort Worth the lead and the 6-5 win.

Tyler Pearson picked up his third win of the season pitching one inning in relief allowing only one hit and no runs. The loss was charged to AirHog closer James Morrison who pitched one inning allowing only one costly hit, a go ahead solo home run in the ninth.

Grand Prairie got on the board in the bottom of the first when Aaron Garza opened the inning with his sixteenth double of the season. Brandon Carter followed with a single to right and a stolen base to put runners at second and third with no outs. Cesar Nicolas earned his league leading fifty-seventh RBI of the season singling home Garza to give the AirHogs the early 1-0 lead. Mike Conroy then grounded into a double play to score Carter and push the lead to two.

They would add another run in the third on an RBI single by Brandon Carter that scored Garza who was on board after single and stealing second.

A John Allen homerun brought the Cats to within a run in the fourth making the score 3-2.

Chad Gabriel answered back dialing long distance for the fourth time this year pushing the lead to 5-2.

John Allen opened the sixth with a lead off homer, his second of the game to make the score 5-3.

The Cats would tie the score in the eighth and take the lead for good in the ninth when Pat O'Sullivan reached on an error by shortstop Brandon Carter and Ryan Patterson doubled to the left field wall to put runners on second and third. O'Sullivan then scored on a passed ball while Patterson advanced to third. Kelley Gulledge followed by flaring an RBI single into right to tie the score at five.

Fort Worth took the lead in the ninth and didn't look back as Michael Bell would give them their first lead of the game with a solo shot to left making it 6-5.

Aaron Garza and Chad Gabriel were each two for four while Gabriel had a homerun and two RBI's. For the Cats, John Allen had two homeruns and two RBI.
