Pelicans take lead in series with 12-4 win

PENSACOLA, Fla - Kevin Reynolds was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in as the Pelicans defeated the Cats 12-4 on Friday night at Pelican Park in Game 3 of the South Division Series.

The win put Pensacola within one victory of advancing to the American Association championship series.

The Pelicans broke open a scoreless game in the second with a five-run frame. Chase Burch and Marcos Rodriguez led off the inning with walks. One batter later, Lou Palmisano doubled home the first run of the game. Adam Darby followed with an RBI single and later in the inning Kevin Reynolds lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 and drive Cats' starter Jae Jung from the game.

Reliever Nat Harris came on and got a ground ball from the next batter Antoin Gray, but shortstop Cameron Blair could not make the play and two more runs came into score for a 5-0 advantage.

The Pelicans would add a run in the fourth an RBI single by Reynolds and two more in the fifth on a two-run throwing error by third baseman Michael Bell.

Leading 8-0 going to the sixth, Marshall McDougall delivered a two-out single for a 9-0 advantage. Dallas Christison's second home run of the series in the seventh put Pensacola up 11-0. Christison wound up with three RBIs in the game and now has four in the series.

The Cats scored two in the eighth and two in the ninth to avoid a shutout. Ryan Patterson had two hits and an RBI in the game for Fort Worth.

Pelicans' starter Kieran Mattison (1-0) earned the win as he went six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out six. Jae Jung suffered the loss for the Cats as he lasted just 1 2/3 and permitted five runs, thee earned on four hits while walking three.

Cats' pitchers allowed nine walks in the game. The two errors committed by Fort Worth led to four unearned runs.

The series continues with Game 4 on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. and the Cats must win to avoid elimination.
