Pelicans Stay Hot, Continue Winning Run

Pensacola Pelicans News Release


After the three and a half hour plus game on Friday, the Pelicans and Coastal Bend Aviators played a quick and to the point 2:13 game tonight in front of nearly 2,800 fans in Pensacola. Pensacola had two big innings to give them their 6th win in a row, 7-1.

The Aviators (18-22) scored their lone run in the 1st inning. Brian Fryer led off the game with a single and came into score off a Bryon Smith RBI single. In the bottom of the inning, Pensacola (17-23) answered with three runs off three hits. Nathan Warrick led off the inning with a triple down the right field line. He scored on a groundout by Ricardo Cordova. Marcos Rodriguez walked and then moved to second base when Trino Aguilar was hit by a pitch. JD Reininger then doubled to center field, scoring both Rodriguez and Aguilar.

Jesen Merle made his first start in a Pelicans uniform. He picked up the win, allowing only 1 run on 6 hits in 5 innings of work. Jeff Rodriguez and Carl Scheafer combined to pitch the final scoreless three innings.

In the 5th inning, Pensacola got their 4 insurance runs on the night. Warrick, Cesar Aranguren, and Cordova had consecutive hits to score two runs. After Rodriguez walked, Aguilar and Reininger followed with back-to-back RBI singles making the final score 7-1.

The Pelicans are looking for their second consecutive sweep in the final game tomorrow against the Coastal Bend Aviators at 5:05.
