Coastal Bend took an early 1-0 lead, as 1B Bryon Smith singled in CF Brian Fryer in the top of the first inning. Smith went 3-for-4 on the night with one RBI. But the Pelicans answered quickly by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a JD Reininger two-run double, to take a two-run lead. Starting Pelicans pitcher Jesen Merle would calm down after allowing the run in the first to pitch four more innings without allowing another run. Merle came out after five innings, having allowed one run on six hits with two strikeouts. Pensacola SS Ricardo Cordova was responsible for four of the team's seven runs, batting in three and scoring one of his own on a 2-for-4 night.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning, the St. Paul Saints rattled off 11 straight runs, starting with a 2B Alex Fonseca grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning. But Fonseca wasn't done. He also went deep in the sixth, picking up two more RBI to bring his total to six on the night. Starting Saints pitcher Brian Whinnery earned his third win of the season against only one loss, pitching seven innings and allowing one run on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Saints C/1B Marcel Longmire also had a solid night at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs of his own. With the win, the Saints have won six straight games.

W: Joel Schmal (1-0) L: Nathan Staggs (0-1) S: NONE

The Explorers bats were hot all night against the Saltdogs, as eight different batters registered multiple hits. The middle of the Sioux City lineup was all but unstoppable, as LF Jorge Moreno, 2B Jake Daubert and DH Alex Llanos each had 4-for-6 nights. Daubert knocked in four runs to go with his four hits and Moreno scored four of his own. Starting Explorers pitcher Joel Schmal got his first win of the season in relief, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing no runs on two hits. For the Saltdogs, RF Seth Pietsch hit his fifth home run of the season and 3B Jay Yaconetti went 4-for-5 on the night.

Sioux Falls 3, El Paso 2 (12 innings)

@Sioux Falls, SD. Time: 3:38 Attendance: 3613

W: Lenny Bays (5-0) L: Julio Frietas (0-1) S: NONE

HR: EP-Matthew Kent (4)

A hit batter, a wild pitch and an error by the Diablos allowed Sioux Falls SS Damon Lessler to score the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning. The game had been tied since the bottom of the fifth inning, when 1B Abner Arroyo hit an RBI double to make the score 2-2. After six-and-a-half scoreless innings following the fifth, perhaps fatigue took its toll on the road Diablos. Canaries pitcher Lenny Bays picked up his fifth win of the season to remain undefeated after pitching a scoreless twelfth inning. With the win, Sioux Falls closes to within four games of first place Lincoln.
