Pelicans open "Rusty Begnaud Benefit Account"

The Pensacola Pelicans announced today they have opened the "Rusty Begnaud Benefit Account" for Pelicans starting pitcher Rusty Begnaud. The right-hander was seriously injured in a swimming pool accident Tuesday night and is currently paralyzed from the shoulders down. He is currently being treated at Baptist Hospital in downtown Pensacola.

Fans will be able to assist the Begnaud family during Rusty's recovery with donations at any People's First Bank location. Out-of-town donations can be wired to the account by calling People's First Bank at 1-800-807-7227 and asking for the Gulf Breeze Branch. Additionally, the Pelicans will also be taking donations at Pelican Park through Sunday, June 25.

"I speak for not only the Pelicans organization but all Pelicans fans and the entire community when I say all thoughts and prayers are with Rusty and his family," said Pelicans owner Quint Studer. "Over the next several days and weeks, we will be taking a number of actions to support Rusty and his family. We are grateful for the extraordinary skill of the medical team at Baptist Hospital and we will do what we can for a comfortable recovery for Rusty and his family."

Prior to tonight's game, fans can take a moment to direct their thoughts and prayers for Begnaud before the first pitch versus the Shreveport Sports at 6:35 p.m.

The Pelicans continue their seven-game home stand tomorrow versus the Sports at 6:35 p.m. The Pelicans will begin a three game series vs. the Coastal Bend Aviators on Friday at 6:35 p.m. at Pelican Park and will play the Aviators on Saturday and Sunday at 6:05 p.m.
