St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

St. Joseph, MO-The Blacksnakes (19-19) were unable to complete the sweep of St. Paul (22-16) as the Saints scored a 7-6 win in 10 innings. It was the second consecutive 10-inning game between the two clubs and ended St. Joe's season-long seven-game winning streak.

The ‘Snakes struck first on red-hot Mark Burke's three-run double in the first inning, only to see St. Paul take a 4-3 lead in the third on the first of Victor Rodriguez's two home runs.

Misha Dworken then delivered for the ‘Snakes, a two-run home run of his own against his former team to make it 5-4 in the fourth. It stayed that way until Rodriguez again homered off Donovan Graves in the seventh.

It went to the ninth tied when St. Paul got a run off closer Jamie Tricoglou when Brian Becker doubled in a run. But St. Joe tallied in the home half on Jimmy Mojica's run-scoring double to even the game at six.

But St. Joe gave up a two-out walk in the 10th and St. Paul mixed a stolen base, an infield single and a couple of ‘Snakes errors to take a 7-6 lead. It held up when St. Joe stranded two runners on in their half.

Mark Burke had three more hits, and had reached safely in 10 straight at bats, including eight straight hits, before grounding out in the eighth. Wil Quintana saw his 17-game hitting streak end by going 0-for-4. Scooter Jordan had three hits and has now reached safely in all 36 ballgames.

The loss hampers the ‘Snakes hopes of catching Lincoln (26-12) for the North Division first-half title, but they will play the next three head-to-head over the weekend. After Thursday off, St. Joe sends Evan Thomas (2-4) to the hill in Lincoln against the Saltdogs' Brian Rodaway (3-1). Game time is 7:05pm with the Heartland Health Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45pm from Lincoln's Haymarket Park for the first of the three-game series.
