Pensacola Pelicans News Release
The Pelicans and Aviators played their last game before the All-Star break tonight in front of a good crowd at Pelican Park for the three-game Sunday rubber match. Bubba Dobson got the nod for the Pelicans and Bryan Heaston started for the Aviators.
Dobson wasn't around long as he got into trouble early, allowing three runs on four hits while walking two in only an inning and a third. He was replaced by new acquisition Nick Maness who didn't fare any better. In the top of the fourth the Aviators collected four walks, a hit batter, only one hit and two errors as they batted around and brought six in to score. Because of the errors no runs were charged to Maness who lasted 2.2 innings, allowing two hits and four walks while striking out two.
The Pelicans were shutout through six innings but managed to bring one around in the seventh. Trino Aguilar led off the inning with a double and moved over to third base when Tim Dorn followed with a single. Aguilar came in to score on a Bo Brown groundout later in the inning. The Aviators took a 9-1 lead into the eighth.
Blake Allen had an impressive debut, throwing four innings in relief of Dobson and Maness, he gave up only two hits, one walk and struck a batter out.
The Aviators added insult to injury, scoring two more runs in the ninth, as four consecutive hitters reached base after the Pelicans managed two outs. Bryan Fryer got both RBI with a single to left field.
