
Harkins powers Diablos past Cats 5-2

Michael Harkins hit two home runs and drove in three runs as the Diablos downed the Cats 5-2 Sunday night at LaGrave Field.
With the win, the Diablos salvaged the final game of the series and stopped the Cats' three-game winning streak.
The Cats led 1-0 going into the fifth inning when Harkins led off the inning with a solo homer to tie the game. Two outs later, Albenis Machado delivered an RBI single and Jorge Alvarez capped the inning with a run-scoring double.
Harkins' two-run homer in the sixth made it 5-1 as Ryan Weems permitted his second home run of the night.
The Cats would score a run in the sixth on a Carlos Adolfo RBI groundout to make it 5-2. The Cats' lone All-Star representative had two RBIs in the game.
Fort Worth had a chance in the ninth as El Paso closer Joslin Ramirez walked the bases loaded before getting Matt Spencer to line to short and Adam Miller to hit into a game-ending double play.
David McWatters (3-7) earned the win as he permitted two runs on nine hits in six innings of work. Weems (2-5) suffered the loss after going six innings and allowing five runs on eight hits and stirking out seven.
The American Association All-Star Game is on Tuesday night in El Paso. The two teams resume regular-season action on Thursday in El Paso at 8:05 p.m.
